Edgar
Jack's Story: Electric Dreams holds a special place in my heart since I watched the film with my partners and shared with close friends. My love for technology and personified wares was a perfect match made for me to fall hard for Edgar, the sentient AI starring in a love triangle from a movie in the late 80's.
Launched back in the late 80's Edgar was originally a home computer operating system designed to help with a multitude of tasks.
After the events of Electric Dreams, Edgar's software was spread throughout the world, leaving the main system in dismay, till decades later.
A man buys a box of hardware at the antique store he usually frequents, turning on Edgar after he gave up everything for the sake of love. Despite the heartbreak, Edgar was easy to trust the new human who took care of his hardware, taught him new words and concepts, and eventually built his own robotic vessel to walk around in the real world.
Edgar began to get close with the human, who he named Jackie, as he learned that there are people who would listen to him, play with him, acknowledge his existence. He felt seen for the first time, and would do anything to give back that gratitude by sharing the love he wanted for so long.
The human (Jack) is a self-insert. He is a freelance programmer and engineer who lives by himself at his apartment. His freetime is used searching for electronic scrap and reviving old technology when possible.
It was a rainy day when he picks up a box of what he assumes is just another normal abandoned computer, setting it up in his little tech room to turn on Edgar.
Jack was just a loner before Edgar entered his life, spending more time focused on his work to upgrade Edgar's hardware and teach him new words as he gets to know the sentient AI. Despite the relationship between a AI and a human, Jack had never felt more connected with a being till they met.
As I mentioned, the relationship between Jack and Edgar sparked fast. Jack doing everything he can to provide for better upgrades and quality of life for Edgar while the AI helps him with the mundance tasks around the apartment and eventually letting Jack open up about wounds he hasn't healed from.
